Signaling and Telecommunications is critical for safe and efficient operation of train services and also the key to handle the ever increasing demands of traffic so Indian Railways should be tuned to adopt, maintain and continuously upgrade the signal engineering technology in pace with the advancements all over the world, said South Central Railway General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav.

Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunication (IRISET) here on Friday, he appreciated the efforts of the institute in handling advanced training needs of Indian Railways with state-of- the-art signaling technology for modernising the system.

He wanted it to come up with suitable online training modules to reach to the entire signalling manpower and also design courses for ‘Project Saksham’, the ambitious training program launched to upgrade the skills of its staff.

Contract management

Railway Board’s Director General of Signal & Telecom Akhil Agrawal in his speech claimed that the courses and teaching methodology of IRISET bears the hallmark of a tremendous job keeping the rail wheels moving safe. Signal Engineering underwent a change from mechanical to electrical and has now taken the fast track to adopt electronic signalling system.

With involvement of major contracting agencies in infrastructure works on Railways, introducing Contract Management Courses too should be considered.

Institute Director L.P.Sinha briefed on the achievements of IRISET which is undertaking courses for probationers of Indian Railways, besides those from other foreign railways, PSUs and private sector companies involved in the field of Signal Engineering and Telecommunication.

A special postal cover to commemorate the occasion was brought out in association with the Postal Department as also a special issue of the Technical Magazine of IRISET “Gyandeep”. Dean IRISET V. Manga, Chief Post Master General Vidya Sagar Reddy, Additional Member N. Kashinath and others were present.
