Nallakunta police station Sub-Inspector Shaik Mastan Vali was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday, after he allegedly collected a bribe of Rs. 6,000 from a motorist in a road accident case.
Sum recovered
The tainted sum was recovered from the SI’s table drawer, ACB DSP T. Shankar Reddy said.
The motorcyclist V. Chiranjeevi was accused of ramming another motorcyclist on August 6 at Nallakunta.
A criminal case under IPC Section 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) was registered against the SI following a complaint lodged by the motorcyclist.
Chiranjeevi’s bike was detained and kept at the police station.
“The SI had demanded a bribe of Rs. 9,000 to bail Chiranjeevi out and release his vehicle. After receiving the sum, he kept Rs. 6,000 for himself and returned the remainder, asking Chiranjeevi to deposit it in the court towards bail,” the DSP said.
Nallakunta Inspector V. Jayapal Reddy, was not in the police station when the SI was caught by the ACB officials.
