A sari shop owner from the Old City sexually assaulted a customer after luring her to his room and uploaded the heinous act online, having recorded it with his mobile phone.
While the Charminar police declined to divulge details of the case claiming that they were “yet to finalise the case,” sources said the shop owner, Afzal (38) of Banjara Hills had been detained on rape charges. His friend Faheem, accused of uploading visuals of the sexual assault, was also picked up.
A distant relative of Afzal, the victim used to come to his cloth store at Pathargatti, Charminar. Soon, Afzal befriended the woman.
“During one of the visits to the shop, he invited her to his room atop the shop and sexually violated her. He threatened to kill her if she raised her voice,” a police officer said.
He said Afzal recorded the act using his mobile phone. He showed the visuals to Faheem, who later uploaded the footage to Internet. As the visuals started circulating online, the victim’s relatives abroad learnt about it and informed members of her family.
Case registered
The shocked victim approached the police higher-ups. A special police team picked up Afzal and Faheem and handed them over to the Charminar police for further investigation. A case of rape and criminal intimidation was registered against the accused duo. The IT Amendment Act was also slapped on the duo.
