Sheep distributed at KTR’s adopted village

Emphasis on revival of traditional trades, says Collector

Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar formally launched the sheep distribution programme on Tuesday at Rajannapet village in Yellareddypet mandal , which is also the village adopted by Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K. Taraka Rama Rao.

He said Telangana was the first State in the country to launch the innovative scheme of distributing sheep to shepherds for their economic empowerment. He reiterated that the government was taking measures for the revival of traditional trades in villages such as distributing fish seedlings for the benefit of fishermen, and sheep for shepherds.

In the Rajanna-Sircilla district, a total of 16,162 shepherds had applied for sheep units. In the first phase, they had decided to deliver 8,153 units by distributing 1,71,213 sheep and rams. He asked the beneficiaries to bring to his notice irregularities, if any, in the ambitious scheme. CESS chairman D Laxma Reddy, ZPTC member Agaiah, MPP Sujatha, and DRO Shyam Prasad Lal were present.

Four units distributed

Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna on Tuesday launched the scheme at Talamadugu mandal village headquarters amid fanfare. Adilabad MP G. Nagesh, Boath MLA Rathod Bapu Rao and Collector Buddha Prakash M. Jyoti were present.Four units of 20 sheep and a ram each were distributed among the beneficiaries. The Minister promised to speed up purchase and distribution of the animals. He recounted the welfare programmes initiated by the TRS government and pointed out this scheme would benefit the Golla Kuruma community.

₹5k crore for the scheme

Launching the sheep distribution scheme along with MLA Chinta Prabhakar and Collector Manickaraj Kannan on Tuesday, Legislative Council chairman K. Swami Goud said sheep distribution would boost the village economy. He said the government would invest as much as ₹5,000 crore to implement the scheme. Along with the provision of mobile veterinary clinics, the government would also extend insurance for the sheep, he added.Collector Manickaraj Kannan said the scheme would provide opportunities for economic growth. Mr. Prabhakar said 50% of the beneficiaries would be covered under the scheme, followed by the rest in the next year.

Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy launched the distribution at Medak.

Fodder for sheep

Government Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar launched the programme at Thimmapur village in Dharmapuri mandal on Tuesday.Urging the shepherds to utilise the opportunity and increase the sheep population, he said the Veterinary Department would provide medical care. Collector A. Sharath said they had decided to provide sheep to 10,553 beneficiaries this year in the district. Also, fodder would be grown on 14,000 acres in the district. ZPTC member Rajamani and MPP Mamatha were present.

Traditional trade

Karimnagar Special Correspondent writes:

The objective of Telangana state would be served only if all traditional trades flourished with a profusion of economic activities, Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender stated.

Launching the scheme at Venkatraopalli village at Huzurabad mandal on Tuesday, he said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was taking all measures for transformation of Telangana by introducing several welfare and developmental schemes.He called upon the shepherds to grow fodder on their lands and safeguard the sheep.

Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said the district had a total of 40.50 lakh sheep and they had decided to distribute an additional 5.5 lakh sheep in the next two years. JD (Animal Husbandry) Vikram Kumar, ZPTC member Sarojini, Nagara panchayat chairman Vijay Kumar, and sarpanch Devamma were present.

‘Boost to rural economy’

Khammam Special Correspondent writes:

The State government had initiated the programme to boost traditional livelihoods and strengthen the rural economy, said Minister for Roads and Buildings T. Nageswara Rao.

He distributed 17 sheep units to beneficiaries at the MPDO’s office in Tirumalayapalem mandal on Tuesday. The State government had sanctioned around 16,324 sheep units to the district for the current financial year.The Minister said the scheme was intended to make the shepherds self-reliant.

Collector D S Lokesh Kumar said a total of 339 societies were formed under 427 gram panchayats in the district. Zilla Parishad chairperson G. Kavitha, and Joint Collector T. Vinaykrishna Reddy were present.
