A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice N. V. Ramana and Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar on Wednesday asked the Medical Council of India if it had a role to play in dealing with sexual harassments of medical college students by teaching faculty. The Bench treated as writ petition a letter from a student of Kurnool Medical College, alleging sexual harassment by a professor. The court also called for a report on the matter.
In her letter, the student alleged that the professor had been sexually harassing women at the college and that the police had not investigated the case till now. She sought a direction to the Principal Secretary, Medical and Health and the Kurnool district Collector to take stringent action in the case. The Bench directed the MCI and NTR Health University to respond on the questions raised and on safety of girl students.
Roster violation at JNTU alleged
Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao of the A.P. High Court on Tuesday ordered notices in a writ petition filed challenging the notification for filling up of teaching posts at JNTU, alleging that there was violation of roster principle among other stipulations.
The case, filed by one Ravinder Reddy, said the authorities had not correctly fixed the caste-based roster points and thus several people were being deprived of their opportunity. He said the post of professors, assistant professors etc. could not be filled with such roster. The judge directed the authorities to file counter-affidavits.
MLA mortgaged Wakf properties, says petitioner
A Division Bench comprising Justice G. Rohini and Justice Naveen Kumar on Wednesday issued notices in a writ petition alleging that the authorities had not initiated action when a MLA mortgaged Wakf properties to a bank.
The writ petition was filed by Osman Bin Mohammad Al Hajri of Deccan Wakf Properties Protection Society. He complained that Mohd. Muqtada Khan, MLA from Karawan, had mortgaged prime property of the Wakf Board to the Charminar Bank and had failed to repay the debt.
Now the property is sought to be auctioned and the Wakf Board had not reacted despite representations.
The Bench ordered notices and asked the respondent authorities to file replies.
