Several colonies flooded in SCB area

Areas around Bowenpally in Secunderabad Cantonment Board were severely affected by heavy rains that plunged the city into chaos the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Motorists who commuted from Paradise towards Bowenpally said heavy rain flooded the roads, rendering them invisible. Commute became dangerous, particularly for two-wheelers as barricades at a few places lay on the road submerged in water. Visibility was reduced to a few feet as traffic slowed down.

In some areas, murky water flooded homes, trapping residents who were forced to remain indoors until late Wednesday afternoon. “Colonies abutting the Ramanakunta lake saw murky water from the lake flood their homes. Some of the worst affected colonies include Srinivas Nagar, Ganesh Golony and Sai Baba Colony,” said member Ward 6 Pandu Yadav.

The cantonment board has plans to construct a ring-sewer pipeline around the lake to divert the waste coming in. “Unless we take some drastic steps, it would get very difficult to manage the situation during monsoon,” the ward member said.
