A gang of seven, which took away Rs. 20 lakh from Deepak Kumar of Srinagar colony in Banjara Hills, at knifepoint, nearly two months ago, was caught by the police on Thursday.

The Banjara Hills police arrested the seven accused and recovered Rs. 16.20 lakh from them, the West Zone DCP, G. Sudheer Babu, said at a press conference. The dacoity was allegedly masterminded by Mohd. Taj, who had been working with Kumar since the past 15 years.

Taj joined hands with Basith and Imtiyaz, both working as drivers, and planned to rob his employer. On October 25, the trio along with four others lay in wait for Kumar at his house. As he walked into the cellar, the gang followed him and threw chilly powder at him.

Even before Kumar could react, the dacoits pointed a knife and a toy pistol at him and made off with a bag containing Rs. 20 lakh.
