Bank customers across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be better placed relatively with the States set to have fewer bank holidays, compared to many others, in the first week of April. The first day of the next month will be a holiday for annual closing of accounts. Mahavir Jayanti on April 2, however, will not be a holiday in the two States.
April 3 will be a holiday on account of Good Friday and the next day will be a half working day and hence no cheque clearing is possible. April 5 is Sunday, thereby resulting in regular banking operations resuming only on Monday.
March 31, according to sources in the banking industry, will be a hectic day as usually there is a rush of customers on account of being the last working day of the financial year. “People queue up to pay taxes and our focus is on mobilising deposits from the government departments,” a banker said. April 1, the official said, will be a non-banking day for customers, but a working day for the staff.
With the job of filling cash in ATMs entrusted to private agencies, the machines will not run out of cash.
