‘Selection of candidates based on reports’

March 19, 2014 07:35 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:34 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that selection of candidates for the Parliament and Assembly constituencies would be based on reports gathered from different sources.

In an informal chat with the reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Lakshmaiah said that social justice plank would be adhered to while selecting the candidates.

He said the list of candidates was likely to be announced by March 28 and winning prospects of each aspirant would be the sole criterion.

However, he assured that sitting members would be retained.

The TPCC chief said there would be significant defections into the Congress in the coming weeks and added that the Congress was open to alliance with likeminded parties. The Congress’ doors were always open for leaders to come and join.

He said plans were afoot to organise a public meeting in Hyderabad by the month-end to be addressed by AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
