After somnambulating on the road widening projects for about a year due to polls, funds crunch and other sundry reasons, the GHMC is preparing to bring at least a few such select roads to their full shape in the next three months.
Key portions of most of these arterial roads have been widened but equally significant sections remain untouched due to delays in land acquisition and cases pending in various courts, which left the work incomplete in turn obstructing free traffic flow.
“We have prioritised roads to quicken the widening works pace from April 1. All pending land acquisition cases will be expedited and a special effort will be made to dispose off court cases,” said Additional Commissioner (Planning & Projects) K. Dhanunjaya Reddy.
Road stretches identified include Himayatnagar-Narayanaguda (12 properties pending), Charminar Pedestrianisation Programme (CPP – 110), Charminar-Falaknuma (25), Tarnaka-Habsiguda (three), Punjagutta-Erragadda (60), Ramnagar-Vidyanagar (10), Lakidikapul-Hotel Ayodhya circle (14), Filmnagar-old Mumbai highway (50), Qutb Shahi Tombs-old Mumbai highway (nine) and a few properties on the Inner Ring Road.
Mr. Reddy said negotiations on firming up structural compensation for the 80-odd railway properties on the Sangeet theatre to Tarnaka with the South Central Railway (SCR) had reached a decisive stage so that 150 ft wide thoroughfare is available for vehicular traffic.
“With limited intervention we can show good results on these stretches. We will be spending close to Rs. 20 crore for acquisition of alone,” he added.
