The untimely demise of the private security officer in an accident did not sadden his family. On the contrary, the family members are putting up a brave front and believe that despite his death, Venugopal will live on.
“Venu was helpful by nature and keeping that in mind we decided to donate his organs to the needy,” recalls his cousin Ganesh.
While travelling on a two-wheeler, Venugopal was hit by a speeding car on the Nagarjunasagar road on April 10. He was rushed to Kamineni Hospital immediately and fought for his life for the next two days. With no improvement in his condition, on April 12 the hospital doctors declared him brain dead.
“We are glad that he is helping others in his death too. We were contacted by grief counsellors of Mohan Foundation who highlighted the need to donate organs to the needy. The decision to donate organs was a collective one and was taken after discussing with Venu's wife Swapna, in-laws and his parents,” Ganesh said.
Inspiring others
In a press release on Tuesday, CEO of Mohan Foundation, K. Raghuram said that Venugopal's heart valves, liver, kidneys and eyes were successfully retrieved and distributed among several hospitals in twin cities. “About seven needy patients have received the organs. One life has made so much difference to seven others. It should inspire others to pledge their organs,” K. Raghuram said.
Till now, the foundation has facilitated transplantation of 58 livers, 158 kidneys, eight heart transplantation, 24 heart valves and 204 eyes to the patients.
