Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here on Saturday that economic growth of the country would be ensured only when its internal and external security was assured. He cautioned against lethargy in providing logistics to the armed forces, though they were fully prepared to meet any security challenges.

Speaking to scientists during his visit to Defence Electronics and Research Laboratory (DLRL) here, the Minister lauded the efforts of the laboratory in achieving indigenisation in the field of electronic warfare. He advised the scientists to keep user satisfaction in mind while working on new defence equipment and appreciated the achievements of the institution engaged in research and development of critical electronic warfare equipment.

He was accompanied by Scientific Advisor and Chief of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) V.K. Saraswat. Director of DLRL G. Boopathy, and other senior scientists working on strategic projects at DLRL guided the Minister through the defence laboratory.

The Director of DLRL gave a detailed presentation on the activities, achievements and future plans of the laboratory to the Defence Minister.

The Minister was conducted to the static display area where all the vehicle-mounted systems, which were already inducted into armed forces, were displayed. An impressive exhibition was also arranged to showcase various systems developed and the facilities available in the laboratory. He also visited Research Centre Imarat (RCI), another premier research institution of DRDO, before paying a visit to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) where he saw the newly built facilities for manufacture of surface-to-air missiles and other state-of-the art production facilities.

Speaking to the scientists there, he underlined the importance of indigenisation, assimilation of technologies and modernisation.

Chairman and Managing Director of BDL Major General Ravi Khetarpal apprised the Minister about the production activities and expansion plans of the organisation. Hyderabad Mayor B. Karthika Reddy and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi called on the Minister later.
