Huge contingents of police forces have been deployed for the main religious procession being organised on Sunday on the eve of Sri Ramanavami from Gangabowli in Mangalhat to Sultanbazar.
Longest part
Security was tightened at several other communally sensitive points in old city and other parts of the capital where localised religious rallies would be taken out for Sri Ramanavami.
Longest part of the main procession route passes through the jurisdiction of Mangalhat and Shahinayatgun police stations of West zone.
Along with Rapid Action Force units, additional forces from the districts were drawn for security arrangements for the procession in which an estimated 25,000 devotees would take part. Chanting religious slogans and ‘bhajans', the rally would pass through lanes and by-lanes.
“It would take an hour for the tail-end of the procession to cross some points where the road is narrow,” the police said.
It would begin around noon from Rani Avanti Bai community hall in Gangabowli of Mangalhat and reach a ground near Hanuman Vyayamshala in Sultanbazar.
Route
The procession would pass via Anita Towers, Gandhi statue at Purnapool, Zummeratbazar, Chudibazar, Begumbazar Chatri and Siddiamberbazar, the police said.
Fifteen Assistant Commissioners of Police, 30 Inspectors and 45 Sub-Inspectors would oversee the security arrangements.
