Secunderabad hotel collapse

Secunderabad woke up to bad news on Monday morning with the Hotel City Light collapsing around 6.30 a.m. As many as 11 persons were killed and 16 others were injured in the mishap. Nagara Gopal captures scenes of the tragedy.

It is most unfortunate that this incident happened and so many people died. From the news reports we understand that the owner of the building was reckless as he had constructed Halim bhattis and stored other related heavy items on the first floor in spite of the weak structure. This was the last straw that broke the Camel's back and he paid a very heavy price for it! Now G H M C is wrecking havoc on similar dilapidated buildings , Halim bhattis or not and without reasoning! Majority of dilapidated buildings on main roads are already marked for road widening and owners of those buildings are awaiting their compensation cheques. Now the demolition crew are not waiting for road widening crew to do their job and making people homeless even before their legal time is up !

This indiscriminate demolishing has to stop !
