SCR to prosecute 27 for poor food quality

Special teams of South Central Railway (SCR) detained and sent 27 persons for prosecution for unauthorised hawking, catering quality, etc., at railway stations and trains in all six divisions - Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded.

The drive was also to check over charging, cleanliness at base kitchens, quality of food items, correct weighing of food items, proper adherence to preparation process of all food items and so on. In all 299 cases were booked and a penalty amount of ₹ 1.059 lakh realised. The special teams also inspected whether the food stalls on railway platforms are manned by staff properly. Punitive fines were imposed on them and vendors in trains for not carrying proper identity cards. Priority is also being given to curb any type of unauthorised hawking on the railway premises and trains.

Military warrant

Defence personnel travelling on military warrants should carry their original identity cards issued by the Defence Ministry during their journey. Similarly, family members of defence officials booked and travelling on warrant should carry their medical card or family identity card issued by the Ministry.

An official spokesman said that instances of misuse of military warrants have been brought to the notice of the Railways, where some civilians were found travelling on the authority of military warrant.

Therefore, failure to produce the required cards as proof will be considered as travelling without ticket and charged accordingly
