Women passengers plying in MMTS trains can now enjoy hassle-free journey as South Central Railway (SCR) on Monday launched the much-awaited Mathrubhoomi ladies special on Falaknuma-Lingampally route.
Everyday over 40,000 women passengers commute in MMTS trains across different destinations in twin cities. Two exclusive ladies special services would be operated on the Falaknuma-Lingampally route and they would be guarded by lady security personnel and ticket checking staff will also be ladies.
Besides, Mathrubhoomi ladies special trains, SCR has also launched Hyderabad-Ajmer bi-weekly express, Kacheguda-Mahabubnagar, Kacheguda- Miryalguda Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (DEMU) passenger trains.
Chief Minister K. Rosaiah flagged off these trains at Kacheguda Railway station in the presence of Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said Hyderabad-Ajmer express was a special train as it connects pilgrims from different religions. The State and Central governments should work in coordination and come up with such services, which aid in passengers' convenience, he said.
South Central Railway General Manager M.S. Jayanth said passenger amenities, including extension of platform shelters, Online train tracking system, better illumination would be taken up at all the MMTS station in twin cities with a cost of Rs.6 crore.
Mr. Jayanth further informed Kacheguda railway station would be developed by installation of escalators, second entry from the Amberpet side and construction of new waiting halls at the station. All these works would be taken up with a cost of Rs. 22 crore and would be completed in a year's time, he added.
The MMTS Travellers Group appreciated the inauguration of Mathrubhoomi (ladies special) MMTS service.
Describing it as a milestone on the history of MMTS, the group said this would be of great help to women passengers, in a press release issued here on Monday.
They also requested the government to cooperate with South Central Railway and augment MMTS services and also release funding necessary for commencement of phase-II works.
