South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced CCTV surveillance in areas like departmental examinations, parcel offices and station cleanliness etc., to have transparency. This is apart from technological initiatives like e-procurement, e-auction, e-tendering, e-payments which have resulted in eliminating several complaints, said General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav.

He was addressing a gathering as part of the “Vigilance Awareness Week – 2017” which began on Monday with P. Sharath Kumar, Advisor to the AP and Telangana Police, delivering a lecture where spoke of private sector corruption, which basically relates to the supply side, and said it can also be brought under the purview of vigilance commission for more effective monitoring of corruption.

Calling for use of technology towards vigilance and identification of fraudulent and corrupt practices, he pointed out that this has led to blocking of over two lakh shell companies in the recent times. Mr. Kumar also gave a detailed presentation on methods employed by various agencies to increase their business at the cost of their customers’ hard-earned money. A Vigilance Bulletin was brought out on the occasion in which senior railway officers were present.

SCR CVC Ashesh Agrawal said his team has been conducting over 1,300 preventive checks and creating awareness among the employees through seminars and personal interactions.

Unmanned level crossings

Earlier, Mr. Yadav held a video conference with all the six divisional railway managers on safety issues where he sought personal monitoring of the work related to unmanned level crossings and completion of all the proposed track related work within the given schedule. Minor incidents of unusual happenings like gate open cases, minor derailments in yards, in sections and diesel loco failures, etc., should be taken note of and immediate remedial measures should be undertaken to arrest any such failures.
