SCCL to operate Naini coal block

May 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has decided to operate the Naini coal block allotted to it in Angul district of Odisha in the mine developer-cum-operator (MDO) method since it is located hundreds of miles away from the company’s mines in Telangana State.

The company will go for tenders to find an MDO for its Naini block next week as part of its plans to begin production in three years. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of SCCL chaired by Chairman and Managing Director of the company N. Sridhar here on Saturday.

A total 14 Indian and overseas companies had expressed interest in the coal block when SCCL had invited Expression of Interest (EoI) in January this year. Later, Director (Planning & Projects) A. Manohar Rao visited the coal block area in Odisha and inaugurate a makeshift office of SCCL there. Special efforts were made by the company in the recent months to get necessary clearance for mining in the block.
