SCB’s tax collection drive yields good returns

March 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Thursday forced a private hospital in Trimulgherry to down shutters for a few hours as the building’s owner did not clear property tax dues. It, along with two other establishments, had failed to clear dues of Rs. 26 lakh despite several notices. The building was shut as the owner did not respond to notices, but soon payment was made and it was allowed to open, an official said. SCB tax collectors later went to other establishments to demand payment of dues. They mopped up Rs. 60 lakh on Thursday. SCB has issued notices to 100 defaulters who owe at least Rs. 1 lakh in property tax to the board.
