Residents in Secunderabad Cantonment Board are facing water shortage issues and have taken to protests for a resolution.

On Saturday, residents of Katta Maisama, Krishna Nagar and Indira Nagar protested at Balamrai Pump House claiming they have not received supply for hours. Women protested with empty water containers alleging that the Secunderabad Cantonment Board was delaying supply to public connections.

“The residents are prepared to pay for household connections but there is no definite word on when it would be done though SCB officials say they are ready to provide them,” said M. Krishank, a Congress party representative in the cantonment who protested along with the crowd.

A similar protest was held about a week ago at Marredpally where residents said adequate water supply was not being provided.

“In our neighbourhood, the supply has gone from once in two days to once in three days and the duration of supply was also reduced to just about half hour,” said Venkat Ramaniah, a resident in Diamond Point area.

SCB Superintendent Raj Kumar was unavailable for comment but sources claimed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board had cut down its supply to Secunderabad Cantonment after temperature began to rise.
