The vision of Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has given a huge advantage to Siddipet, currently the district headquarters, which earlier was only the revenue divisional headquarters.

The surrounding villages in the municipality were merged through resolutions passed by their respective panchayats, in favour of the merger.

With the merger, the district headquarters town crossed the one lakh mark thereby making it eligible for ‘Amruth’, a centrally sponsored scheme. Under the scheme, the town got the underground drainage system and sewerage treatment plant sanctioned .

Now, the authorities of the Sangareddy municipality are planning to follow the footsteps of Siddipet and step into a similar system. After a long time, the proposals are on for expanding the district headquarters municipality area.

Presently, only Sangareddy town is part of the municipality. Even the Integrated Collectorate Complex (ICC), which hosts several district-level offices, was situated in Pothireddypally, a panchayat adjacent to the municipality and entry point to the district headquarters. The municipality currently has 31 wards.

The proposals include several villages in Sangareddy mandal such as Pothireddypally, Kandi, Kaplagur, Kulabgaur, Tallapally, Chintalpally and Malkapur village in Kondapur mandal. This will give an advantage of increasing the population of the town from the existing 72,000 (as per 2011 census) to 1.15 lakh.

However, the panchayats have to pass resolutions in this regard accepting the merger into the municipality.

How many of the panchayats come forward and whether the political leadership, particularly MLA Chinta Prabhakar, will be able to convince the local leadership explaining the advantages was a question yet to be answered.
