Sanction accorded to prosecute Akbar, court told

April 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao on Monday was informed that the State government accorded sanction for prosecution of MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in cases pending against him in Nizamabad and Nirmal police station with regard to his alleged hate speech.

The Bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by Taraq Quadri, a resident of the city. He sought a direction to the Telangana police authorities to complete the investigation in FIRs registered against the MIM leader at Nirmal and Nizamabad police stations in the year 2013 for his alleged hate speech.

On Monday the government pleader for home department told the bench that Nizamabad police have already filed charge-sheet in the case. The bench put a query whether the sanction was granted by the government and the bench was told that the government accorded sanction for the prosecution. Recording this, the bench closed the PIL.

Ganesh idols’ height

The same Bench on Monday asked the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti to come forward with suggestions regarding regulation of height of Ganesh Idols to be installed at pandals during Ganesh festival. The Bench said the feasibility of asking organisers to seek permission to install idols beyond 20 foot height may be taken note of.

The case was adjourned by two weeks.
