Leading mobile device maker Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd on Friday announced the launch of Galaxy Note 510, its new 8-inch tablet, aimed at reigniting the mid-size tablet category that the company established three years ago.

New features aplenty

Providing state-of-the-art multimedia performance within a compact one-hand-grip screen, the new variant also enables voice call functionality. A new feature that stands out is the multi-window feature that splits the screen, allowing access to more than one live application.

Samsung Electronics president and CEO, Southwest Asia, B.D. Park unveiled the product at the Samsung Forum 2013 with the theme “accelerating discoveries and product evolution in future” here on Friday.

Mr. Park said the Note 510, bundled with the S Pen, had access to a suite of templates and tools and would allow the user to create, edit and manage documents besides facilitating reading mode for e-books with optimised resolution.

Going strong

The consumer electronics major claimed it had achieved sales of $200 billion and had tripled its growth rate in Southwest Asia, retaining its lead position in flat panel TVs, smartphones, tablets and colour monitors.

Touch-pad remote control

While the last year’s Forum saw the company unveiling motion-controlled televisions, on Friday Samsung came out with a touch-pad remote control, a universal device that can be used for all brands, in addition to the 85-inch ultra high definition TV that included a “one-connect” feature — that enables a single cable connect to the TV, eliminating the clutter.

New range of TVs

The new range of TVs enable viewers to simultaneously enjoy two different pieces of content from the TV or a Blu-ray player on the second screen besides allowing them to share content among friends and family using the “digital hub” technology. Another feature, Mr. Park said, was “easy share”, allowing users to share digital content between devices through two USB ports eliminating the need for a PC and enabling users to keep their data on a portable hard drive.

Samsung India vice-president, Sales, Mobile Business, Asim Warsi said the company was making significant investments in innovations and R&D that formed the bedrock of the operations. Samsung was, however, operating system-agnostic as it preferred consumers to have their say. The new products would be available in the coming days.
