Salary for Imams, Moazans

July 23, 2014 12:04 am | Updated 12:04 am IST - Hyderabad:

The Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Commission has recommended salary of Rs.8,000 per month to Imams and Rs.6,000 to Moazans of mosques situated in major towns and cities and salary of Rs.6,000 and Rs.4,000 to Imams and Moazans of mosques in small towns and villages. The Commission made these recommendations after conducting a survey of socio-economic conditions of the Imams and Moazans in the united state through a questionnaire.

What they were paid now was barely sufficient to meet their basic requirements, said Abid Rasool Khan, chairman, APSMC. The Commission has also recommended houses to be provided to the mosque preachers in the government housing programme for the poor besides covering them under appropriate health insurance programme.

Both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments had initiated action on these recommendations, Mr. Khan said in a press release.
