He is one among those few, who have exhibited their creations at the Milan, London and New York fashion weeks, besides major ramp events in India. Known for his Indian style in different creations, Sabyasachi Mukherjee will now present a design showcase at a special show organised by The Hindu in the capital on Sunday at Taj Falaknuma Palace at 7 p.m.

Mukherjee believes in giving updates on age-old textiles and craft traditions. For this special occasion, the designer revisits the 1920’s and recreates the opulence of the era with its rich baroque detailing. There is a distinct oriental influence, too, in the choice of colours and sensuality of drapes.

The design showcase, for a change, will feature live music by acclaimed Carnatic musician Bombay Jayashri. The singer won Oscar nomination for the best original song in “Life of Pi”.

Arun Anant, CEO of The Hindu ,in a press release said: “We are happy to do an event with leading fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Classical vocalist Bombay Jayashri. The fusion of their styles creating beauty with sound and fashion should be magical.”

The design showcase in Hyderabad will be followed by another show at the Leela Palace in Chennai on September 26. The twin shows also include silent auctions of Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s garments.

The proceeds will go to The Mahesh Memorial Paediatric Oncology Centre set up by the Mahesh Memorial Trust at the Adyar Cancer Institute, Chennai. Started in memory of music director Mahesh, who succumbed to cancer in 2002, the centre takes care of the treatment, nutritional needs, upkeep and counselling of its patients. The Trust is in the process of setting up a state-of-the-art intensive care unit and is keen on reaching out to rural areas, according to the press release.

The event is sponsored by BMW India and Kun Exclusive - BMW Authorized partner in Hyderabad, RADO, BOSE, Unitech and Taj Falaknuma Palace.
