Rythu Bandhu Scheme introduced by the State government will bring about a revolutionary change in the farm sector for its revival and will also become exemplary for all other States, according to Member of Parliament Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
For the first time, probably in the entire country, a State government had come forward to bear the cost of farm investment relieving the farmers from the tension of finding sources for the purchase of inputs like seeds, fertilizer, pesticides and expenses, she said while addressing a gathering of farmers who lined up to receive cheques under the scheme at Mamidipally in the mandal on Friday.
The TRS government has been making efforts to ensure 24-hour power supply, building warehouses by increasing their capacity from 4 lakh tones to 18 lakh tones and launched the Kaleswaram irrigation project and so on only to strengthen agriculture, she said.
Since the Nizam Sagar Project was a lifeline to the district Singur water was exclusively reserved for it instead of diverting it for drinking water purposes in twin cities. As a result, farmers reaped bountiful harvest in the last two years, she said. She went on to say that unlike past today if electricity supply goes off it was news.
She said that an amount of ₹204 crore was being distributed to 2.39 lakh farmers in 439 villages in the first phase and an equal amount would be given in November. In Armoor mandal alone ₹17 crore would be distribtuted among 14,000 farmers, she said.
Appreciating the efforts of revenue staff for cleansing land records within 100 days, she said that on Thursday ₹ 7.67 crore was disbursed among 8,637 farmers.
