The Telugu Desam Party is buoyant over the results in the zilla parishad and mandal parishad elections and is hopeful that the results are a precursor to the party’s performance in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the Seemandhra region.

Impressive gains

The results were on the lines of the municipal elections where the TDP made impressive gains and the party was encouraged with the trend in favour of the TDP. “There is no truth in the claims of the YSR Congress that rural voters are not with the TDP.

The results have reinforced our belief that people are with the TDP,” party MP Kambampati Ramamohan Rao said.

He said the party was confident of winning nine to 11 out of the 13 zilla parishads for which the elections were held.

The TDP was confident that the results have set the tone for the party’s performance in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The party’s confidence stems from the fact that the election to the local bodies were held much ahead of the TDP forging alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the aggressive campaign by actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan. “The trend in the two elections clearly shows that the people were looking at the TDP as an alternative and cast their vote accordingly,” he said.

The TDP was optimistic that the party would surpass expectations in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls going by the overwhelming response from the voters in its favour.
