RTC union indefinite strike from tomorrow

May 16, 2010 04:27 pm | Updated 04:27 pm IST - Hyderabad:

The National Mazdoor Union (NMU), a trade union in APSRTC, has decided to go on an indefinite strike in the city from Monday demanding replacement of old buses, provision of rest rooms and promotions for employees.

All the 18,000 employees, including drivers, conductors, and mechanics working at different bus depots in twin cities will participate in the strike. The strike notice was also issued to RTC Greater Hyderabad zone Executive Director on Saturday, said NMU working president M. Nageswara Rao.

As per corporation rules, a bus which completes 11.5 lakh kilometres operations in should be scrapped and there are over 1,500 rickety buses plying on different routes even after completing over 13.5 lakh kilometres operations. Drivers and mechanics were facing problems in handling such vehicles, he said.

Meanwhile, APSRTC Employees Union has found fault with NMU over issuing strike notice.
