Almost all the APSRTC buses in Rayalaseema region were confined to respective depots and services in Coastal Andhra region continued to be hit on Tuesday due to the ongoing Samaikyandhra agitations at different places in Seemandhra region.
Of the 350 buses that are operated towards Kurnool and Rayalaseema region everyday, majority remained off the road and commuters travelling to the capital from Kurnool had tough time. RTC authorities claimed that the situation was bit better in Coastal Andhra region when compared to Rayalaseema region as most areas recorded 35 to 80 per cent operations.
But commuters will have to brace up for even more tough times in the coming days, as RTC employees from Seemandhra region have decided to launch an indefinite strike from August 12 midnight.
Strike notice will be served by all the four zones, including Nellore, Kadapa, Vizianagaram and Vijayawada, employees to the management on Wednesday. This apart, relay hunger strikes would be conducted by employees at respective 123 depots in Seemandhra region on Thursday and human chains would be formed at different places on Saturday, said RTC Employees Union Samaikyandhra Porata Samithi convenor P. Damodar Rao.
Meanwhile, South Central Railway (SCR) authorities said already many special trains were being operated from the capital covering coastal and Rayalaseema regions. However, more trains would be introduced depending on the demand and situation, SCR spokesperson.
