Officials of the Legal Metrology Department on Thursday searched cement godowns belonging to three companies and seized 8,210 bags worth over Rs.20.61 lakh.The searches were conducted on the godowns for delivering 50 kg cement bags with short measurements. During the searches, officials found a maximum short delivery of one kg to an average of 138 gm, said Additional Director-General of Police and Legal Metrology Controller S. Gopal Reddy here.
He said six cases were booked against the Orient Cement Industries in Devpur at Machiryal in Adilabad district for violating rules. The company was using six packing machines to fill cement bags. Of them, four machines were used illegally without verification by the District Legal Metrology Inspector in Adilabad, Mr. Reddy explained.
Authorities also noticed a short delivery of 775 gm in 50 kg bags. The firm was using non-standard road weigh-bridge, he said. He stated that Adilabad district Inspector S. Rajeswar was placed under suspension for his negligence in attending to duties resulting in loss to the State exchequer.
