Thieves made off with Rs. 2 lakh from the bag of a passenger at Jubilee Bus Stand in Secunderabad on Saturday.

A contractor K. Srinivas Reddy boarded a Jagityal-bound APSRTC bus to reach Siddipet carrying Rs. 18 lakh in a bag. While sitting in his seat, Reddy grew suspicious on seeing a hole on the bag. He got down and counted the cash only to realise that Rs. 2 lakh out of the Rs. 18 lakh were stolen, the Marredpally Inspector Shashank Reddy said.

“I saw four persons boarding the bus. One of them stood close to me and made a hole on the bag using a blade or knife,” Srinivas Reddy told the police. The contractor from Siddipet came to the city on some work and withdrew Rs. 18 lakh from a bank at Sainikpuri. He came to the JBS to catch a bus to return to his home town with the cash when the thieves struck.
