The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMR) has announced the release of Rs. 2 crore to take up repairs of the rain-battered road between St. Ann’s School (Secunderabad) and Uppal junction. HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy has asked engineers of the Roads & Buildings Department, which owns the road, to immediately take up the required repairs.
Mr. Reddy personally inspected the road accompanied by engineers/officials drawn from various departments on Wednesday. The horrible road conditions on this stretch and woes of the commuters where the metro rail works were also progressing was highlighted in these columns a couple of days ago.
R&B was told to complete road restoration works opposite St. Ann’s School, St. John’s Church/ISKCON junction and Sangeet junction in the next one week. The department has been asked to coordinate with GHMC to raise the road level and provide proper slope to tackle the water stagnation near Habsiguda junction and also complete black topping within a day. It can also initiate permanent measures like constructing storm water drains in the area.
The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (HMR) is to complete water pipeline and electrical poles shifting in the next four days. It was asked to fill up potholes from Sangeet junction to Oliphanta junction and shift water pipeline and complete underground cabling work between Mettuguda and Alugadda Bavi in the next 10 days.
The GHMC has to take up road repairs between Rathifile junction and Chilakalguda junction with funds provided by HMR.
The MD urged the SCR to allow shifting of pipelines for which Rs.1 crore was paid by HMR as leeway fee. Excavated earth stacked near Tarnaka flyover is to be removed immediately and road is to be restored.
The traffic police was directed not to allow illegal parking on the roadsides on the stretch. The MD urged all the departments as also L&TMRH to do the works on a war footing to reduce inconvenience to the road users in the monsoon.
Brisk pace
Mr. Reddy said Metro Rail works were progressing at a brisk pace in several parks. He advised HMR and L&TMRH engineers to follow high safety standards and try to reduce commuters problems on rain battered roads.
