Rs. 15,000 seized from Gali’s brother in prison

August 31, 2012 08:40 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Bellary legislator and Gali Janardhan Reddy' s brother Gali Somasekhara Reddy, currently in Cherlapally jail, will not be able to see any visitor for the next fortnight, as authorities have suspended the facility after they found Rs. 15,000 in his possession contravening the jail rules.

His right to visit the jail canteen is also suspended for 15 days. The punishment for keeping money in contravention of jail rules, would have been harsher in case of a convict, but the legislator is only an undertrial, arrested in illegal mining case.

Prison guards found the money in the legislator’s shirt when they took up a surprise inspection in Manasasarovar block where Reddy is staying. “The MLA maintained that he kept the sum ready as an offering to God. Whatever his intention, that is in violation of prison manual,” prison Superintendent K. L. Srinivasa Rao said.

Award for staff

Half of the seized money would be given as reward to the prison staff who detected it, while the other half would be deposited in the treasury, authorities said.
