Rs. 1 crore each for 50 municipal divisions on city outskirts

Commissioner agrees to grant the amount after TDP corporators kick up furore at GHMC office

A budget of Rs. 1 crore will be provided to each of the 50 periphery municipal divisions of GHMC for taking up developmental works.

Commissioner Somesh Kumar agreed to grant Rs. 1 crore each after TDP corporators kicked up a furore at the GHMC office on Friday morning demanding Rs. 5 crore for each division. The agitated corporators laid siege to the Commissioner’s chambers for over three hours, raising slogans. Mr. Kumar said the municipal divisions on the city peripheries which were merged with the erstwhile municipal corporation deserved special attention and budget. “Residents of these 50 divisions pay tax equivalent to what those in the core areas pay but they are not reaping any benefits,” pointed out party floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy.

Meanwhile, the civic body has come up with tax increment finance (TIF) concept under which a comprehensive development of the divisions would be taken up by raising loans. “There will be a small increase in tax but we will ensure complete development by ensuring drinking water supply and laying underground sewage system,” Mr. Kumar added.
