Student unions and youth organisations accused the government of reaping political benefit through the fee reimbursement scheme, ignoring the interests of thousands of students who joined colleges because of the scheme.
A round table discussion, organised by the Telugu Nadu Students Federation (TNSF) and Telugu Yuvatha and attended by several student and youth organisations at the Hyderabad Press Club, found fault with the recommendations of the Cabinet sub-committee of fee reimbursement and termed its recommendations as absolutely unacceptable to students.
TNSF State president Nannuri Narsi Reddy said that the G.O. No. 66 reflected the government's intentions of doing away with the scheme after politically benefitting from it. He said that 18 per cent of seats last year were filled during the spot counselling.
These seats were filled by the Convenor himself and how can the government say it will not reimburse the fee for those seats this year. The committee is also talking about the scheme not being extended to failed students.
The committeehave reported that only 30 per cent of teachers were qualified while 60 per cent of colleges did not have infrastructure.
