Rosaiah, Chidambaram discuss police modernisation

April 10, 2010 03:02 pm | Updated November 28, 2021 08:46 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Friday informally discussed modernisation of the State police and extension of other facilities from the Centre when he called on Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram here at North Block.

Sources said during the meeting that lasted about 10 minutes, the general law and order situation in the State and the recent communal violence in Hyderabad came up for discussion.

As some of the top Maoists, who were said to be involved in the Dantewada attack on CRPF jawans in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh State on April 6, hailed from Andhra Pradesh, the check on inter-State movement of naxals too came up for discussion it was said.

Meanwhile a top AICC leader denied that Mr. Rosaiah came up with any proposal on Cabinet expansion and said these were “baseless” rumours spread by vested interests as they did not want the Chief Minister to administer the State peacefully.

Reports

There were reports in the Telugu media that Mr. Rosaiah was not given audience by Congress president Sonia Gandhi when he wanted to take up the Cabinet issue with her. The Chief Minister told journalists that he would meet Ms. Gandhi when he again visits the Capital on April 14 for plan finalisation meeting for the State scheduled on April 15.
