Rosaiah cautions civic departments to be alert

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has cautioned all city civic departments including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Collector and the police to be alert for the next 24 hours since more rain is forecast.

The departments should be ready to tackle any exigency on account of the heavy downpour expected and even keep cranes on the standby to clear roads or any structures falling on the roads. Instead of awaiting instructions, the department heads should be proactive to rush to the rescue of needy citizens.

Chief Secretary S.V. Prasad has been asked to monitor the situation and ensure people were evacuated from low lying areas if necessary.

The police should deploy more force to clear clogged traffic on the road after pumping out water from water logged roads and lanes.

Medical and Health Department should stock medicines to prevent and tackle outbreak of any communicable diseases or seasonal diseases.

Rain-hit areas should be sanitised properly and all accumulated dirt should be cleared.

The water board was told to ensure supply of potable drinking water to all parts of the city.

Moreover, the MeT Department recorded 1.1 mm of rainfall on Wednesday and predicted that the city would receive intermittent rain and thundershowers on Thursday.
