Chief Minister K. Rosaiah announced a cash award of Rs. 25 lakh to ace shuttler Saina Nehwal for her outstanding performances in the international circuit, especially in the last three weeks when she won three titles including the Singapore Open and the Indonesian Open Super Series events.
This announcement was made after Saina called on the Chief Minister along with her father and sister and the coach Pullela Gopi Chand at his camp office on Wednesday evening in the presence of Mr. Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, Minister for IT, Youth Services and Sports, and senior officials of the State government. “Excellent. Well done. You have done a great job. It is a marvellous performance. Heartiest congratulations. All my best wishes and greetings to you,” Mr. Rosaiah told the champion shuttler. He also appreciated Gopi Chand for “grooming Saina into an excellent performer.” “You have done a great job as a coach. I congratulate you also,” the Chief Minister said.
Interestingly, official sources said that this announcement came after the Sports Minister strongly felt that some cash award should be announced to Saina for her achievements. And, this announcement came after Saina Nehwal's entourage left the place along with senior officials of the government.
