Robbers strike at will in city

A series of property offences reported from various areas of Cyberabad during the late hours on Sunday kept the police on their toes.

At Ghatkesar, a three-member gang of robbers struck at the house of businessman Raju at NFC Nagar and allegedly stole six tolas of gold ornaments and Rs. 15,000 cash after threatening the family members. “The miscreants wearing monkey caps broke open the door and entered the premises. They threatened the inmates with a knife and made off with the loot,” Inspector Ghatkesar, T Ravinder said.

In another case reported at Saroornagar, unidentified persons broke into a house at Venkateshwarnagar colony Champapet and decamped with 50 tolas of gold ornaments, the police said. The house owner, Laxman, and his wife were asleep when the miscreant sneaked into the house after unbolting the door through the window.

At Adibatla, thieves broke into three houses at Kongara village and decamped with Rs. 10,000 and some articles on Sunday night. On receipt of information, police reached the spot and launched efforts to nab the culprits.

On Monday, pseudo police struck at two places and robbed two elderly women of gold ornaments. At Vaisahalinagar colony in Saroornagar two persons posing as policemen robbed a housewife of seven tolas of gold ornaments on Monday. The woman, M. Savitramma (57), wife of former MP Manda Jaganatham was returning home after distributing wedding cards when the miscreants approached her.

They told her that a murder took place in the area and the assailants were moving around and asked her to remove her gold ornaments and keep it safely. “Believing them, the woman removed her gold ornaments and handed over to them. The miscreants wrapped it in a newspaper, pretended to keep in her bag but took it away after diverting her attention,” the police said.

In another case reported at L. B. Nagar, two persons posing as policemen robbed a house wife K. Satyamma (55) of Nalgonda district of three-tola gold ornaments in a similar manner.
