A portion of the road at Kukatpally caved in early on Sunday owing to water leakage from a pipeline underneath.
According to GHMC, a 200-mm pipeline on the road to Allwyn Colony was damaged and a nearby 600-mm pipeline was chocked. Leakage from the damaged pipeline resulted in water eroding the earth underneath the road, causing it to cave in. Though the depth of the cavity was over five foot, there were no accidents caused by the damage, the GHMC sources informed.
The GHMC and the water board staff began work on removing the stagnation by pumping out the water on Sunday to fill the cavity. The officials also discussed restoring the bigger pipeline to prevent water from pooling.
