About 150 students presented degrees, six get gold medals at IIIT Basar

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies on Tuesday held its second convocation awarding B. Tech degrees to 150 students in addition to gold medals to six and awarding one as University topper on IIIT Basar campus.

Experts in the field of education exhorted the students to tune themselves with the changing times and work to uplift the nation.

The chief guest Rajesh Tandon, who is the founder president of Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and UNESCO Chair on Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education, laid stress on research in institutions of higher learning. He said that knowledge has been an important historical contribution of universities to the nation. Talking about the role of youth in nation building, Mr. Tandon said that the median age of population in the country was 25 years. If the youth were not adequately educated and skilled they could even become a demographic nightmare, he cautioned.

As guest of honour the former chairman of UPSC, D.P. Agarwal, said that the nation was rooted to self reliance since Independence. “Other nations having denied technologies to India so we developed them on our own,” he added. University Vice-Chancellor S. Satyanarayana talked about the aim of the RGUKT in providing quality education to rural youth. Chirram Kumar was adjudged university topper while the gold medalists in respective branches were Chirram Kumar, Jogannagari Shashirekha, Ponnam Lava Kumar, Nalla Srilatha, Muni Bhaskar Siva Kumar and K. Shivraj Kumar.
