It was a happy reunion for the couple -- Y. Manohar and Sumitra from Borabanda – with their newly-born baby boy after the police handed him at the Gandhi Hospital on Monday night.

A childless woman, Mariamma alias Mary of Kukatpally along with her relative P. Naveen kidnapped the baby from the Gandhi Hospital on Sunday morning and was trying to take the child to West Godavari district in Janmabhoomi Express when the police nabbed them.

Police also admitted the boy in a hospital for medical aid. A special police team brought the child to the city on Monday night.

“We will seek police custody of Mariamma to collect more information from her. We will also try to check her background,” said Chilkalguda Inspector B. Anjaiah. The police verified the footage of CCTVs installed in Secunderabad railway station along with Manohar and identified that Mariamma was boarding Janmabhoomi Express.

“We alerted all police officials by sending photographs of the accused through emails. We gave descriptive particulars of the kidnapper over phone. Due to this, the police nabbed the two accused at Tenali Railway Station and rescued the baby,” said DCP (North) R. Jayalakshmi.
