After being rescued and nursed back to health, 20 homeless dogs and cats were adopted by citizens at a pet adoption drive here on Sunday, which was organised by Animal Rescue Team of India and Hyderabad Pet Adoption.
A total of 30 dogs and 10 cats were put up for adoption at Kabara Drive-in at Banjara Hills, where more than 100 people turned up for the programme.
“Foster parents of the animals that were not adopted will put them up online for adoption soon. In the last three years, over 1,000 pets have been taken home by people through our programmes which are held three or four times a year,” said Ananth Robert, one of the organisers.
Mr. Robert said after rescuing an animal, its injuries are treated and then sent for foster care till adoption.
In fact, adopting a pet through the programme is not so simple, as those interested have to undergo counselling by foster parents of the animals.
“Their addresses are taken along with a letter of undertaking that they won’t leave the animal that they are taking home. And sterilisation is also a must after adoption,” said Mr. Roberts, and added that there are over 7,000 volunteers from both organisations who work round the clock to help rescue animals in the city.
