Telangana Minister for Health C. Laxma Reddy has stated that management quota seats in all private medical colleges in the State would be filled through a common entrance test, Medcet, which would be conducted by a prestigious institution.
Responding to a question as to what would be the use of conducting Medcet when the managements had already sold their quota of seats with “advance booking”, the Minister said on Sunday that many parents and students were not aware of such an examination. “Even if some managements collected advance from parents for booking seats for their wards, such amounts have to be returned if students concerned fail to get merit marks in the entrance test,” the Minister said.
Speaking to reporters after holding talks with ‘108’ ambulance service employees, he also brushed aside fears that there would be a high chance of Medcet question paper leakage since several managements had collected money for seats in their quota. The government will take foolproof measures to prevent any such situation and the responsibility of conducting the entrance test will be given to a reputed institution, he assured.
To another question, the Minister said the government was examining the issue of enhancing the salaries of government doctors and giving incentives. Changes would be brought in the health education system, including installing closed-circuit (CC) cameras in government hospitals and health department offices.
