A close relative turned out to be the culprit in a case involving the theft of 400 grams of gold jewellery and Rs. 25,000, from the house of private company owner Ravinder Singh, at Narayanguda three days ago.

The Narayanguda police on Thursday arrested Sunny Singh Madaan (27) and recovered the stolen gold and Rs. 20,000 from him, Central Zone DCP V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said.

Suspicions arose over the possible involvement of known persons, as the offenders had opened the lock of the house with a duplicate key.

While the probe was on, police found Madaan trying to dispose the stolen jewellery at Abids.

During interrogation, he admitted to have committed the theft.

Ravinder Singh’s brother Deep Singh had visited Madaan’s house a few days ago. He was carrying the house key along with that of his bike.

“Madaan borrowed Deep Singh’s bike for a while. Later, he got a duplicate key of the house made,” police said.

Madaan used it to enter Ravinder Singh’s house when the occupants went out three days ago.
