State secretary of the Communist Party of India K. Narayana on Sunday said educational institutions in Telangana were going through a financial crisis because of the less intake compared to the available vacancies .
In a letter to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, he sought his intervention to redress grievances faced by technical institutions in particular and others in general, in Telangana. He said they were unable to repay loans taken from banks.
Among their demands were a halt to harassment by officers from Urban Development, Country and Town Planning and Fire departments and issue of show-cause notices for demolition and filing of criminal cases against the managements, reimbursement of tuition fee in equal instalments and of the special fee of Rs. 5,500 per student per annum, stopping of commercial rates charged for use of electricity and establishment of educational development bank with an annual fund of Rs. 5,000 crore for grant of loans to needy institutions to create infrastructure with minimum interest rate of 3 per cent.
