October 28, 2014 12:47 am | Updated August 11, 2016 04:25 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The GHMC will be taking up fresh re-carpeting of metal roads to an extent of 250 km across the city in the coming days. The action plan discussed by the engineering wing with the GHMC Commissioner, Somesh Kumar also envisaged taking up repairs of storm water drains upto 100 kms.

At a review meeting, Mr. Somesh Kumar wanted his engineers to take up at least 10 km in each of the 24 engineering circles of the Municipal Corporation. When fresh roads are being taken up, provisions will have to be made for storm water drains and also footpaths.

The work proposals will be brought to the Standing Committee for taking necessary approvals before tenders are called. Similarly, tenders will also be called for taking up works proposed under the Corporators’ budget and the respective zonal commissioners have to pay special attention.

He said Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy should be consulted for handing over 13,000 houses constructed for the weaker sections by identifying the beneficiaries. He also called for provision of proper basic amenities to the municipal staff at their work places like rest rooms, conveniences, etc. GHMC’s town planning of circle nine took up demolition of illegally constructed top floors in Musheerabad on Monday after vacation of stay orders by the High Court, a press release said.

The plot owner, Rafiunnisa Begum and others, along with their general power attorney Razzak and others, had obtained residential building for stilt plus three upper floors but the owners had deviated from the sanctioned plan and unauthorisedly took construction of extra floors.

The municipal corporation sent notices seeking removal of the unauthorised floors but the developers obtained a stay order from a city court. The GHMC then took the matter to the HC and got the orders vacated before taking up the demolitions.
