56-year-old Shiva Prasad, whose driver is suspected to have committed the crime, had been given security cover after threats from rivals

A real estate businessman was found murdered in Hampshire Plaza hotel at Lakdikapul on Saturday afternoon.

Police said Shiva Prasad (56), hailing from Vizianagaram district, had come to the city on August 15 and checked into the hotel. As he faced threats from rivals, the government had provided him a gunman.

After attending to his business in the city, Prasad returned to the hotel room on Friday night, while his gunman went to a nearby guesthouse to retire for the day.

On Saturday, the gunman knocked on Prasad’s room in the morning and also in the afternoon, but to of no avail. Sensing trouble, he availed the services of the hotel staff, who broke open the door to find Prasad dead, with serious injuries to his head. His wallet, a gold chain and two rings were missing.

Prasad’s car driver Prasanth — who has been missing after the incident — was seen near the realtor’s room, police examination of surveillance cameras revealed.

“It is definitely the handiwork of Prasanth as he ran away with Prasad’s car after the incident and since then his mobile phone was also switched off. He killed Prasad with a rod used in a weighing machine,” the official explained. A hunt is on to trace the driver.
