Civil service aspirants should read their newspaper daily, and make weekly notes in the reverse chronology. While doing so, they should classify news into society, culture, politics, administration, economy, technology, environment, defence and so on, said R.C. Sinha, chief consultant at New Delhi IAS academy at seminar for aspirants organised by The Hindu in association with Analog IAS academy here on Sunday.
Every bit of important news should be recomposed on a weekly basis in 100-200 words within a space of nine minutes, Mr. Sinha said, while advising aspirants to read and make notes topic-wise from news magazines.
Every news item ought to be treated as the “tip of the iceberg” so that a more thorough and in-depth preparation was made of the subject before the exam.
“It is better not to even attempt the premier exam of the country if one is not properly prepared and does not have a thorough knowledge of the subject chosen,” he affirmed.
The pattern to be followed in preparation for the examination is to plan for small assignments and complete them every day.
“Setting up clear goals every day will generate the much-needed confidence of activity,” he pointed out.
The session was followed by a question and answer session. Analog IAS director Srikanth Vinnakota welcomed the gathering and briefly explained about the new exam pattern. C.G. Vijaya Rama Raju, ARM (circulation) of The Hindu proposed a vote of thanks. About 250 aspirants participated in the free seminar, which was titled Approach to the New Civil Services Exam .
