The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was observed by the students and faculty members of Government Girls Junior College at Godavarikhani in the district on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Paying floral tributes to his portrait on the college premises, principal K. Anjaiah said Sardar Patel played a crucial role in the liberation of the Telangana region from the clutches of the Nizam rulers and also in the integration of more than 500 princely States in the country with the Union Government.

NSS programme officer D. Shankar, faculty members P. Lalitha, Prameela, Nirmala, Rajyalaxmi, Jubeda Bhanu, Santoshi, Krishnaveni and others were also present.

Meanwhile, the Ramagundam Commissionerate of Police in association with the Chamber of Commerce organised a 2K run at Godavarikhani to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal flagged off the run and also participated in it that began from Singareni Stadium to Gandhi Chowk.

ADILABAD Special Correspondent adds: The 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas by Adilabad police on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police M. Sreenivas talked about the life and times of India’s first Home Minister at the monthly crime review meeting here.

NIZAMABAD Special Correspondent adds: In response to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was observed where the services of the first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was remembered at Police Parade Grounds, here on Tuesday.

Commissioner of Police Kartikeya administered an oath to the police on the occasion.

He said the police forces across the country have been making untiring efforts to protect the unity and integrity of the Indian society. He said Sardar Patel was instrumental in achieving the unity of the nation. Special branch ACP G. Ravinder, Inspector Ch. Venkanna and others were present.

Meanwhile, In-charge Collector A. Ravinder Reddy flagged off the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas rally.

The rally that began at Shankar Bhavan concluded at Varni Chowrasta where Mr. Ravinder Reddy and other officials garlanded the statue of Sardar Patel and paid rich tributes to him. The DRDA Project Director, K. Venkateswarlu, and Nehru Yuva Kendra district coordinator M. Ramchander Rao participated in the programme.

Remembering the yeoman’s service of Sardar Patel, the Collector said he was credited with the establishment of a strong civil service system in the country.

With his initiative, all the 546 small dominions and kingdoms in the country were united leading to the formation of India, he said.
